The amendment to the Labour Code, which was approved by the Chamber of Deputies this week, is headed for the signature of the President of the Republic.
Amendment to the Labour Code
If signed by the President and published in the Collection of Laws during the month of September, the amendment to the Labour Code will take effect effective 1 October 2023. Certain amendments to the Labour Code will not take effect until 1 January 2024.
The amendment to the Labour Code implements the Directives of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU into the legislation in the Czech Republic. These are specifically Directive (EU) 2019/1158 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on work-life balance for parents and carers and repealing Council Directive 2010/18/EU a Directive (EU) 2019/1152 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019 on transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union.
And what will be affected by the amendments to the Labour Code?
- Changes to the service of documents
- Information about the content of the employment relationship
- Informing employees who are posted to another country
- Changes concerning agreements outside the employment relationship
- Uninterrupted daily rest and uninterrupted weekly rest
- Work remotely
- Parental leave
- Overtime work in the healthcare sector
Other planned legislative changes
But the amendment to the Labour Code isn't the only change, that awaits us in the legislative world in the near future. From 1 January 2024 we will see further changes in payroll accounting. What legislative changes still need to be taken into account if they are approved and come into force?
- Execution Code (based on Amendment No. 286/2021 Coll.)
- Amendment to the Insolvency Act (still in the legislative process)
- Amendment to Act No. 589/1992 Coll. on social security contributions and state employment policy
- Amendment to Act No. 586/1992 Coll., the Income Tax Act (as part of the consolidation package)
- Amendment to the Act on Sickness Insurance (will regulate the insurance of agreements)
As there are many changes within the amendment to the Labour Code and other laws, we will address all these changes in detail in future blog articles.
