Sick leave (or sick days) is an increasingly common employee benefit provided by employers, which employees use during their short-term health indisposition (cold, migraine, stomach upset, intestinal flu, etc.), when one or two days are enough to cure them. Employees can take such leave without having to take regular leave or have a temporary incapacity for work decision issued by the attending physician.
As already mentioned, this is a benefit from the employer (not explicitly regulated by the Labour Code) and it is therefore the employer who determines the specific conditions for taking this type of leave. In particular:
- the extent (length) of the sick leave (usually employers provide 3-5 days per calendar year), whether the entitlement will be reduced in case of commencement/termination during the year, whether it will be linked to a certain number of shifts worked, etc.
- how the employee will report his/her disability,
- the purpose for which the leave is granted,
- the amount of compensation for this obstacle to work (whether the compensation will be calculated on the basis of average earnings or compensation corresponding to lost wages),
- what happens to the unused days (whether the unused leave is forfeited, carried over to the next calendar year or even refunded).
These conditions are most often regulated by internal regulations or collective agreements.
Medical leave in payroll and HR software AVENSIO Software:
There are two methods used in the program to record and calculate sick leave compensation system codes:
- 848 - Indispositional leave by diameter = Compensation calculated on average hourly earnings (as well as, for example, compensation for holidays or other disruptions to work)
- 847 - Indisposition leave with pay = compensation corresponding to lost wages.
Sick leave is entered in the "Compensation" tab.
To print a list of entered absences, you can use report 110100_Salary reports (Main menu - Press reports - Reports), where you set the period for which you want to track the use of sick leave in the "Entry" tab, check the "Settings" tab for the type of pay, fill in the user code number and choose whether you want to print the number of hours and days of leave and the amount of compensation. In addition to printing the report to a printer, you can also save the report to a *.PDF file or export the data to a *.CSV file.
